Is the Alesis Strata Prime the ultimate flagship e-drum kit? With a 10.1” touchscreen and studio-quality sounds, it might be the best kit under $3,500.

Hi Nick,
I really appreciate the work you put in to write an article like this. Since the Alesis Strata prime was released I have been really torn...
I already have Superior Drummer 3 so...
Do I get the Alesis Strata Prime which has awesome VST sounds and user interface or do I get the Roland TD27KV2 which has the most realistic snare, hit and ride cymbal triggering?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Luke,

Ultimately it depends. If you want the most realistic hi-hat experience, go with the Roland. It's really next level. The value you get with the Strata Prime is excellent, however. It's a big kit and has some really great features. Tough call. If possible, I'd try to find a way to play these instruments first. My local Guitar Center has the Strata Prime on display right now, so that's a place you could check if you have one nearby.

Hey Nick,

I’ve got a follow-up question for you. I have a large Roland TD-20 set and am weighing a Roland TD-50X upgrade kit to a new expanded Alesis Strata Prime. I get that Roland has the killer hi-hat but Alesis has better sounds, touch screen and firmware upgrades. How would you compare the cymbal performance, feel and aesthetics? (Yes, I’ll head over to GS.)

Cymbal performance is going to be better with Roland overall, but sounds still lack internally IMO.
