Let’s be real—most drummers don’t have a perfectly treated studio. Maybe your interface is set up next to your kit.

Maybe you’re working from a bedroom or bouncing between practice spaces.

Either way, mixing drums in a tight or mobile setup usually means cutting corners.

That’s where the iLoud Micro Monitor PRO comes in. These speakers promise professional-grade clarity, room calibration, and consumer emulation features in a set of speakers you can fit in your backpack.

Too good to be true? That’s what I wanted to find out.

As a drummer who records and mixes regularly, I wasn’t looking to replace my Focal Alpha 80s—I needed a second, more portable reference point. The iLouds seem to be perfect for that role.

My drum studio is located in the basement and my main mixing setup is on the first floor. I didn’t have any speakers in the studio for referencing, or even just general listening, so these have been a welcome addition to my setup.

And because they’re so compact, I can move them between rooms as needed.

Designed for Drummers Who Mix Their Own Content

More and more drummers today are also engineers, content creators, and producers. Sure, you can get by using headphones—they’re affordable and convenient.

But personally, I prefer to have a solid set of speakers in front of me while working. There’s something about monitoring through real speakers that gives me a better sense of space, energy, and detail in a mix.

The iLoud Micro Monitor PRO is ideal for:

  • E-kit drummers looking for a clean speaker solution mounted directly on their rack
  • Acoustic drummers working in cramped rooms
  • Content creators mixing near their drum set
  • Mobile musicians who mix in multiple locations

The biggest win for me is not needing monitor stands to use these. Thanks to their small size and built-in thread mount, these monitors can be mounted to mic stands or clamp directly to your drum rack.

For my setup, I had some old light stands I used to mount the speakers in front of my electronic drum set.

Build and Features

Each iLoud Micro Monitor PRO speaker weighs just over 3 lbs and houses a 3″ woofer and 1″ silk-dome tweeter, bi-amped with 50W RMS of Class-D power.

Unlike the previous iLoud Micro Monitors, the PRO version gives each speaker its own power supply and amp, offering better stereo imaging and consistency.

The monitors are front-ported for wall-friendly placement and offer flexible positioning thanks to retractable feet and a 3/8″ threaded insert for mic stand mounting. On the back, you get:

  • XLR and RCA inputs
  • USB-C for software control
  • Switches for EQ adjustment (low, high, desk compensation)
  • LF extension toggle (50Hz or 80Hz cutoff)
  • Profile switch (Flat, Desktop, or ARC Calibration)

DSP Room Calibration

iLoud Micro Pro Rear of Speaker

Every room colors your sound. That’s why iLoud includes ARC (Acoustic Room Correction) technology, also found in IK’s flagship Precision monitors.

Included in the pair version is a calibration mic that lets you tune each speaker in under two minutes.

This is especially helpful for small, untreated drum rooms, hybrid setups with odd angles or reflective surfaces, and mobile producers working in different spaces.

Calibration profiles are stored directly on the speakers, so you don’t need plugins or software to benefit once it’s set.

This wasn’t too beneficial to me, since I’m primarily using these for monitoring my e-kit. It’s not like I am making super fine tune mixing adjustments in my current setup.

X-MONITOR Software

IK Multimedia X-Monitor

Connect the speakers via USB to unlock full control with IK’s X-MONITOR software.

This software allows you to customize EQ curves and crossover points, store and switch between calibration profiles, emulate common playback devices such as phones, TVs, and multimedia speakers, and assign presets to hardware buttons for quick A/B comparisons.

For drummers mixing for social media or mobile-first audiences, being able to simulate phone or TV playback is a huge asset.

The drawback is that these speakers are not USB bus powered, so you’ll still need to have each speaker plugged into power and each connected to a USB port on your computer. Lots of cables.

Sound Quality

The iLoud Micro Monitor PRO offers a frequency response of 50Hz to 20kHz (±2dB), with extended low-end down to 42Hz at -10dB. The result:

  • Tight, focused bass that holds its own, even without a sub—though pairing one is an option for those who need more low-end punch
  • Honest mids that make snares, toms, and ghost notes easy to place
  • Crisp, non-fatiguing highs suitable for long editing or mixing sessions

They’re not going to rumble your floor, but they weren’t designed to. These monitors prioritize clarity and translation, and they excel in that regard.

Real-World Use for Drummers

I find these speakers are great for their size, especially for drummers who want to use speakers to hear their electronic drum kits, but don’t want to annoy the rest of the household.

Using these instead of a drum amp works well, but you won’t get the power and punch when compared to something like the Roland PM-200.

In practice, they’re perfect for jamming and playback, mixing drum content, and taking them on the road.

Final Thoughts

iLoud Micro Pro Close up Speaker Natural Light

I’ve had these monitors for about two weeks now, and I’m pretty impressed, especially with the size.

I just wrapped up my first full production on a new Vinyl Theatre song and honestly forgot I wasn’t using my Focal Alpha 80s. They’re that capable.

Despite their small footprint, I feel like I can hear every detail clearly. I still use a KRK sub in my setup, but even without it, the Micro Pros sound surprisingly full.

I’m not a full-time professional mix engineer, so take my advice on the technical with a grain of salt, but they’ve worked really well for my workflow and space.

The biggest win? Space-saving. I’m planning to ditch my bulky monitor stands in favor of a desk clamp mount to free up floor space in my room.

At around $560 for the pair (with calibration mic and software included), the iLoud Micro Monitor PRO delivers serious value.

These monitors offer fully independent amplification, excellent room calibration tech, and smart tuning features that usually show up in monitors twice the price.

The trade-offs

  • No Bluetooth — while you can’t connect wirelessly, there is zero latency, which is a plus for drummers listening to their mixes and live-playthrough (the original iLoud Micro Monitors did have BT)
  • Requires two power outlets (one per speaker)
  • No dedicated subwoofer output—users will need to route the sub via their interface or monitor controller
  • Due to their size, you won’t get much sub-bass without adding a subwoofer

But what you gain is a portable, pro-level reference tool. With X-MONITOR software offering speaker emulation, per-speaker EQ and delay, and flexible profile switching, they’re designed for creators who need their mixes to translate across real-world playback systems.

Highly recommended for modern drummers who need accurate monitoring without the bulk.
