Ace Cannon 1408 Snare Drum

4.1
#4 in Snare Drums
The Beatello Ace Cannon 1408 is a shockingly capable snare for its price. Deep, powerful, and responsive, it delivers pro-level punch without breaking the bank. The hardware isn’t boutique, but the sound and feel make this one of the best sub-$100 snares available today.

I have never been more excited for a snare drum this affordable in a long time. The shell and throw off are the only parts on this drum that really feel cheap. Even the stock heads on the drum sound great when tuned up.

Beatello Ace 1408 Snare Drum

This might be the best snare drum you can find under $100. The Beatello ACE-Cannon 1408 combines a deep 14×8 shell, ten lugs, and sleek modern looks at a price that seems almost too good to be true.

We put it through its paces to see if this “cannon” really fires.

Build Quality & Design

Beatello Ace 1408 Throw Off

Packed in plastic wrap without bubble wrap. Minimal, but the drum arrived secure and damage-free. Adequate for the price point.

Build

The first impression is size. This snare is huge, and it looks like it means business. With ten lugs, tuning is surprisingly precise for the price range, making it easy to dial in balanced pitches around the head.

The finish is clean and modern, likely a wrap, and the drum presents itself like a professional model. Hardware feels sturdy overall, though the throw-off shows its budget roots.

Sound & Performance

Right out of the box, the stock heads are barely tensioned, leaving the drum sounding more like a low floor tom than a snare. That’s clearly just for safe shipping.

At medium tuning, the ACE-Cannon comes alive with punch, body, and snare wire sensitivity. It produces a resonant, full tone that’s perfect for rock, funk, and gospel.

Tone

Tight tuning with stock drum heads

Tuned extra tight, it truly earns its name. The drum delivers a sharp, cracking attack while still retaining weight and body: something many shallower snares lose when pitched up.

Even with the stock heads, the tone is impressive.

Playability, Feel & Sound

Under the sticks, responsiveness is excellent. Rimshots are commanding, ghost notes pop, and the overall feel is comfortable.

The stock batter head feels similar to a Remo Emperor and doesn’t demand an immediate upgrade.

Projection

This drum is loud. In rehearsal or live settings, it cuts through with ease.

Unlike shallow snares that lose weight at high tunings, the 8-inch depth maintains body even when cranked for a nu-metal crack.

Thanks to its depth and tuning range, the ACE-Cannon fits alternative, country, funk, and even metal when cranked tight. A versatile workhorse.

Comparison to Competitors

Most snares around $100 are piccolo models with limited body. The ACE-Cannon defies that trend with a full-size 14×8 build that feels and sounds like it belongs in a higher category.

It outperforms every budget snare we’ve encountered at this price.

Durability & Reliability

Beatello Ace 1408 42 Strand Snare Wires

While long-term testing is limited, the shell and hoops feel stable, and the lugs hold tuning well. The likely upgrade path is the throw-off. It work for now, but is less refined than premium hardware.

Tuning

The included wires have extra strands, 42 to be exact, and a wide response, but swapping for higher-quality wires could add attack and clarity. A throw-off upgrade is optional down the road.

Who It’s For

  • Drummers upgrading from a starter snare without spending big
  • Players adding a secondary snare to their collection
  • Anyone who wants 10-lug stability at an entry-level price
  • Gigging drummers who need a loud, reliable snare they won’t baby

About the Brand

Beatello is newer to the drum scene and actively supports creators on TikTok. The JBK 522 drum kit they sent us for evaluation was more suited for beginners, but this snare is in another league.

It’s beginner-friendly yet satisfying for intermediate and advanced players.

Verdict

The Beatello ACE-Cannon 1408 is a rare find: a 14×8, ten-lug snare under $100 that performs like something far pricier.

Value

While the throw-off and shell materials reveal its budget status, the sound, tuning stability, and feel are far beyond expectations.

For drummers on a budget or anyone expanding their arsenal, this is a must-buy. It really does sound like a cannon.
