SJC Drums has just unveiled a new tier in their USA Custom Shop lineup called Foundation, aimed at drummers who want handcrafted custom drums without the long wait times or overwhelming options.

According to SJC, the Foundation level is designed for players looking for a balance of quality, speed, and affordability.

Instead of starting from scratch with endless customization, drummers can choose from a streamlined set of finishes, hardware, and shell configurations, making it faster to design and receive a kit.

The Foundation series uses M5 and M7 maple shells, outfitted with SJC’s signature 45° bearing edges. Standard 3-piece shell packs include 8×12, 16×16, and 18×22 sizes, with add-ons available such as 7×10 and 16×18 toms.

Snare drums are offered in 6×14, 6.5×14, and 7×14 sizes, while SJC’s UFO floor tom conversions come in 4×20 and 6×22.

Finish options range from classic paints and satin stains to upgrades like bursts, fades, distressed looks, and even splatter designs.

Wraps include pearl, ripple, glass glitter, and custom graphics. Hardware choices include brass, black nickel, chrome, and flat black.

Perhaps the biggest news: turnaround time is listed at just 8–10 weeks, with SJC emphasizing this is their fastest route to owning a USA-built custom kit.

For reference, more complex builds at higher tiers (Legacy and Visionary) often require significantly longer wait times.

In the official launch video, SJC showcased a Foundation kit featuring an Onyx paint base with icy pink splatter, shield lugs, and a matching kick head.

The Foundation line is now live on SJC’s website, where drummers can experiment with three new virtual drum designers for kits, snares, and UFOs before ordering.

For drummers looking to step into the custom drum world without going all-in on a completely bespoke build, Foundation appears to be a strong entry point.
