Redditch will host an immersive tribute to renowned drummer John Bonham in March 2025. Rediscover North East Worcestershire (ReNEW), Birmingham Music Archive, and Birmingham Open Media have joined forces to create this innovative tribute. It’s a celebration of John Bonham, hailed as one of the greatest rock drummers ever and a member of the legendary Led Zeppelin.
The tribute uses cutting-edge technology, blending motion capture and digital animation to highlight Bonham’s legacy. At the John Bonham Memorial Statue in Redditch, visitors can scan a QR code with their phones. This will trigger an animation of Bonham performing three iconic drum sequences from Led Zeppelin tracks: “Rock and Roll,” “Good Times Bad Times,” and “Immigrant Song.”
This digital experience showcases a motion-captured performance by Redditch-based drummer Matt Green, who replicated Bonham’s performances for the animation. The interactive aspect welcomes both enthusiasts and visitors to engage with Bonham’s artistic history right in his hometown.
