Wrapping Up
Many female drummers are famous and influential, but we have to draw a line somewhere. Behind these talented women, numerous other musicians live out their musical soul on the drums, in rock, punk, jazz, or pop, and are also unbeaten in classical ensembles.
The opinion has long been outdated that women cannot play the same way without inhibitions or give everything on the drums. They are often much more creative and unique in their techniques.
Clearly you’ve never heard of Jen Ledger of the band Skillet.
Sina Doering a 21 year old drummer who was born in Germany and does numerous You Tube covers should not only have been on this list, but maybe the best female drummer that I have ever heard. Check her out! I bet that I am the first to mention her.
Listen to her and let me know what you think!!
Your turn!!!
I agree. Sina Doering is one of the best out there and easily should have made this list.
Don’t forget Sheila E, Prince’s drummer.
Emanuel capelete should be on this list.. i got back into playing after years..she inspires me…she is a great drummer and furthers the craft
How is Jen Ledger of Skillet not on this list. She does drumming and singing at the same time. Even on a spinning platform that goes up and down too. She goes hard on the drums. Works through if she hurts herself. Hell she will even sometimes be the opening act for Skillet with her band LEDGER then go straight into drumming and singing for Skillet. She is impressive to say the least. Would she be number 1. In my opinion yes. But I feel like she should be in most peoples top 10 regardless of even gender.
You forgot to put Nini in there, but its still a good list.
I could not believe what a monster Karen Carpenter was as a drummer. I am more impressed with her than I was with Neal Perth.
My girlfriend mentions Kim Schifino of Matt & Kim and showed me the clip “Yeah yeah”. Jolly steady drumming there!
You guys need to check out Paulina Villarreal of The Warning. She is amazing!
I. STAY. N. WITH. ( MEYTAL COHEN )
# 1. DRUMMER. OF. THE. WORLD.
WHY BOTHER WITH THE. REST. I LL. .LISTEN TO. THE. BEST. MEYTAL. COHEN.
Senri Kawaguchi. It’s as if Steve Gadd and Dave Lombardo had a Japanese love child.
Yeah…the absence of Senri Kawaguchi is a gross oversight. Stop whatever your doing, go watch her stuff, and revise your list.
Pau Villarreal of The Warning is definitely amazing. The Warning are a three girl band from Mexico (all sisters) that will blow you away. Their names are Dani, Pau, and Ale.
Sandy West was IMO opinion the hardest rockin’ female drummist in the world…bar none!
no janet weiss?
Give me a break – yes to Evelyn Glennie and Cindy Blackman, but these others? No Terri Lyne Carrington? There are many others that should be on here – Sylvia Cuenca, Sherrie Maricle, etc.
Pau from the warning and Sina . The list is good but my top 10 would have these 2 ladies forsure and skillet drummer also
I was going to mention Terri Lynne Carrington and Sylvia Cuenca. Now how about Sheila Early? There was no mention of her either!
Stefanie Eulinberg From kid Rocks twisted brown truckers band should be on this list
Samantha Maloney…check her out with motley crue..one badass
Terri Lyne Carrington!!!! If you don’t know….. now you know!!!!
Meg White shouldn’t even be in the top 50. Especially ahead of Jen ledger…. Go to YouTube and watch Junna. She’s a Japanese girl and I think she’s better than everyone on this list personally.
How is Caroline Corr not on the list,a lot better than some that are mentioned.
Most of these female drummers on this list are great. If you were to ask them they would most likely say Karen Carpenter was their influence. She was something special,
